I have taken on quite a commitment this month. Writing one blog post each day (no biggie) and participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month for the uninitiated). The latter is a huge undertaking for me, one that I have thought about doing since its inception and have attempted at least once. I have never succeeded in making it past more than a week without something derailing me. November is a busy month for me and always has been. Now that I work in a school and have the end of a grading period to deal with it is even busier, but for some reason I really wanted to try out this challenge this year. Will I stick with it? I hope. Some would say that I’m already failing by not saying that I absolutely will finish the challenge. Say what you will. I only know that I have set myself up for failure before and I would rather say that this is something that I am going to try and if I accomplish it then all the better.
Something this brings out in me is my desire for a schedule and routine. For this to work I am going to have to commit to a certain amount of time each day spent writing, both for the blogging and writing a novel. I have a few ideas churning in my head for the blog and one solid idea for a novel that I have been working on for a while. Two, actually. Which one will I go with? One is stark realism that’s based a bit on my family’s history. The other is an allegorical, apocalyptic, fantasy piece. It’s waaaay outside of the realm of what I usually write and what I was taught was proper literature in school. Both are valuable stories that I believe need telling. Which one will come out? Let me get back with you.
With this need for routine and a plan I am thinking about getting back into my yoga and Pilates practice. It’s been a while and I can telling that my joints and bones are feeling it. When I am active and working on my balance in yoga I can feel it everywhere else. It’s a strengthening experience. Some people like running (I’d rather bungee jump and THAT is saying something), but yoga and Pilates are what do it for me.
So much is going on this month. Jolene is coming to visit this weekend and the following one will be spent in Texas with Heather, shopping like I haven’t in…years. Getting anything done between those two things, Thanksgiving, and work will be a real challenge.
Here we go.
P.S., I exercised this morning!
Oklahoma girl through-and-through. Writer, aspiring domestic goddess and totalitarian dictator. Taking on the world one carb-induced coma at a time. Co-host of Picture Shows & Petticoats.

Good luck! I too am looking for routine, especially since Chris isn’t here to keep prodding me along! I could just curl up in front of the computer or tv every evening (ok, what am I talking about, I sit in front of the computer! LOL) and not doing anything else.
You should do really well on the writing front this month then!
Yay for exercising this morning! I did that as well.
I wanted to do both NaNoWriMo and NaNoBloPoMo, but time? I just don’t have it. That’s what I am struggling with right now. My life is filled between work, a commute, being married, and working out. Maybe next year for me?
So glad you are doing it, though! I hope you finish!
Thanks
Good luck with the challenge. I signed up for NaNoWriMo, but I’m a little confused by the process, but my new motto is “just do it anyway”.
Good motto to have
I have loved reading your blog, and am excited to see how your challenge goes. I started doing Yoga this fall and have so enjoyed it-I have never been too into exercise but I feel with Yoga that I have found my niche! Have a great November.
Thank you for reading!
I love yoga. I had done it on my own for a while and then took it more seriously when my old workplace started offering a class to us in the evenings for free. What an amazing experience. I need to get back into practice and make it part of my regular routine.
You have a great November as well!
Best wishes on this challenge! I think it’s great that you will be pushing yourself during this especially busy time of year. Can’t wait to see what you’ve done.
Thank you! It’s going to be a busy month!
I love NaNoWriMo! I made an attempt this year, and I’m almost 900 words in, but with a 6 week old baby, I never expected to get far. This is my 4th attempt at it though, and I’ve only finished once – last year. It’s such an accomplishment. I hope you go through with it. You feel amazing when you’re done.
