Tuesday List

  • I want to start trying out some new recipes. After about 6 months of my husband’s new schedule I am still not quite used to him getting home late and we have gotten out of the habit of eating at home. My goal for the coming weeks is to try some new recipes and get back to using my slow cooker.
  • Oh, my dear little slow cooker. I have the tiniest thing that Granny bought for me on Black Friday 2007. It was marked down to $2. Tell me, how can something that costs only $2 work so well? I think it’s time to upgrade though. It’s definitely too small to cook a pot roast or a small chicken in. Recommendations for a decent sized (but not enormous) slow cooker?
  • My baby brother has come up to see me more often in recent months. That’s been nice, as for the most part my parents and occasionally my grandparents are really the only to visit me here, 50 miles away. Anyway, it’s been nice to see him. When he visits we usually watch a little TV (he watches the same shows as me and Kevin) or he makes me listen to music. Really, he makes me. The thing is though, I already know most of the songs, so it’s like a game of name that tune for a mish-mash country (new and old) and classic rock. With your occasional hip hop song thrown in. You can’t fool me, boy. I’ve got 4 years on you. And I was around for the early days of Napster.
  • As far as I know, my baby brother does not read my blog. This is a scientific experiment to see how long it takes before he finds out I mentioned him here.
  • While we’re talking about my baby brother, here is the ring tone I have for him on my phone:
  • Thinking about cutting my hair off.
  • This was supposed to be the week of getting back in the gym, but after throwing my back out sometime this weekend…that hasn’t happened. Last night I broke out the shiatsu back massager (one of those you put in your chair) and while it worked a few kinks out, I think I may have bruised my back. Ouch.
  • Since ibuprofen and acetaminophen haven’t been able to touch this pain, I’m awfully glad I saved a prescription pain killer from my wisdom tooth removal. Yeah, those pills are forever old, but the one I took yesterday is the only thing that’s helped. Even if it’s just the placebo effect.

My slow cooker broke a few weeks ago and although it was a gracious wedding gift, I wouldn’t recommend it. Unless mine was a lemon! It started getting cracks in the ceramic from the get-go, then the handle on the lid broke, and finally the entire ceramic bowl shattered in my hands one night. It was a Rival ‘The Original Slow Cooker’.

Long haired girls want short hair and short haired girls want long hair! Ha, I’m dying for my hair to grow faster and haven’t quite found the trick yet. It’s wicked curly so that doesn’t help matters much. Hope your back gets to feeling better soon! :)

Glad your brother is visiting you! I wish I lived closer. I would visit you more often. :)

You know all I have to say to that is YOU NEED TO MOVE TO OKLAHOMA OR TEXAS. See? I would even be okay with you living in Texas. That’s love, Jolene.

    RE: Visiting….

I started exploratory research for a project based north of Stillwater today. Would be cool if in the future it starts up and I get to come and maybe stay a day and visit with you again. That will probably be awhile—these projects seem to be awhile in the process before they start.

sooooo good! i’ve got a baby brother too…mine is five years younger and he lives a state away. i never get to see him which is a bummer. however, it looks like my daughter is going to go to college where he lives so this will change soon.

take care of your back…no more of the shiatsu thing…and hey – i picked up “claire marvel” today from the library! :)

Yum. I will have to try that.

My baby brother used to annoy me. Now I’m really glad to have him :)

Certainly trying. Resting, not doing anything to strenuous for fear of making it worse. I hope you like the book!

  5. I have two CrockPots. A giant one and a decently sized one. And I don’t know what I would do without both because some recipes are just too big for the decently sized one. I’ll search my cabinets tonight and see if I can’t find the model of them both for you.

Love my slow cookers! Both are Crock Pot brands, and work good. Seems like they might run hot, though? Neither are programmable, which I think would be rather convenient, but they work! I have one that is more oval in shape, and it’s perfect for larger pieces of meat (such as whole chicken or brisket).

Little brothers are wonderful, mine is 8 years younger than me, so he causeth me much grief. ;) Mostly, he’s just at that weird age where he wants to be a man, but he’s still just a teenager, and I don’t know…it makes me fret. If God loves me he’ll only give me girls from here on out. They might cry and talk a lot but that I can understand… :P

*gasp* Don’t cut your hair! It’s beautiful long! But then again, I’m growing mine out after several years of keeping it short. I’m worried I’ll finally have it at the length I want in time for summer to roll around and tempt me to chop it all off.

Have you made your elder berry syrup yet?!?
