Tess of the D’ubervilles was assigned summer reading between 8th and 9th grade before I went into honors English and I remember loving it—but I must not have had a good memory of the book because when I saw the MPT version a few years ago I didn’t remember the illegitimate baby thing. So much for reading comprehension! It’s a good version too.
