Some of you may be aware that I was fighting a nasty bunch of aphids that had invaded my small container garden of tomatoes. Well, I am happy to report that I believe I have thwarted my enemy’s plans. I tried everything and finally had to settle on insecticidal soap, but I do think the ladybugs helped.
Here are the tomatoes two months ago when I first planted them.

And this morning…

Lovely little tomato blossoms everywhere. Take that, aphids.

Ooh they are doing good!
Glad the aphids are gone. What varieties did you plant? I see Black Krim—I think Curt planted one of those. I haven’t tried those.
Black Krim
Black Prince
Cherokee Purple (2)
Mortgage Lifter
Mr. Stripey
Sungold (already producing)
Cherokee Purple is the only one I’ve grown regularly before. Mortgage Lifter once before.
They look great! I’ve given gardening a break this year. My experience last year with hornworms left me discouraged to try again. Maybe next season.
I’ve heard of a lot of people having trouble with hornworms recently. I’ve never (knock on wood) seen one.
Wow. Well done!
Thanks!
They look happy and thriving! I’ll have to ask my horticulturist friend if she has any secret weaponry suggestions for aphids. She’s all green and crunchy, so you just never know what she has up her sleeve…
