Monday Morning Cuppa

A sore throat has been plaguing me since yesterday morning, so I’m sitting here drinking Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat, hoping to shoo it away.

Here are a few fun things I’ve found around the internet for you:

You always have the best links! I’ll heartily amen the ban on the low-fat diet. I had to clasp my hands together (is that comparable to biting your tongue offline??) to avoid giving my 2 cents on a twitter conversation over the weekend. Someone trying to convince another person that margarine was really better for you than butter. I did roll my eyes, which never benefits anyone. Especially when they can’t see you…ahem…BUT ANYWAY. I’m amazed at how many people believe that stuff and continue to buy low fat. I knew a lady growing up who was always trying to diet. She would eat this I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter spritz on a rice cake and have a diet coke for lunch. Seriously, how can people even think that’s healthy. Clearly, I’m on a soapbox now…

Loved the EDD link, too. Knowing an approximate date of conception is so big, but again, very few women have any clue about what goes on in their body. It’s a blessing and a curse, actually, either way you look at it. I’m really hoping not to be induced this time. I couldn’t really prevent it the first two, because of health concerns, but hopefully not this one…

I’m totally guilty of doing the last one…ugh. I think I’m getting better. Most people don’t mean anything by it, but I can only imagine how it would feel over time. People are generally well-meaning, but we all know that doesn’t make it any nicer.

Maybe I should have just emailed you. Actually, I do need to reply to your DM.

Also: I love that when I highlight a (possibly misspelled) word (psh, not that I have to do that often or anything) it’s PINK on your blog. :) Mkay, that’s all.

I’ve had the fat conversation with so many people and I’m tired of it. People stuffing their guts with bread should do the math — it’s easy to see that overconsumption (or consumption, period) of that stuff isn’t helping.

In recent years I have been surrounded by women who believe in one of two things — induction for convenience or c-section for convenience. And heaven forbid that a woman who has never given birth express interest in a drug free birth. OH MY LANDS. I think I would have experienced less ridicule if I had wandered in wearing my clothes inside out and my underwear on my head.

I’m guilty of it, too. I guess being where I am in life, with certain limitations and changing emotions surrounding the matter, it’s getting really tiresome. Most people ARE well-meaning, but it doesn’t change the fact that it is never ever their business. I’m learning this and trying to keep my thoughts to myself when they happen.

Regarding what I DM’d you — I called the healthcare provider and I’ll be DMing you again :)

I can’t really take credit for the pink, I think it was in the theme when I got it. But it sure is cute!

I’ve had the butter argument with my husband….I don’t think I convinced him butter was better.

  2. Followed your comment at allume…I,too, am an introvert going to allume conference for the first time this year…hope to meet you there :)

Throat Coat is pretty amazing. I hope you get better soon.
About not having kids…wow, that was a good read. Thanks for sharing! (I have SO much more to say about that topic but I’d rather keep my comment here brief.) :)

I wish my beloved Dr. P wasn’t such a fan of the 40-week rule. My labor was induced with each child and I will always feel just a little bit disappointed about that. I always made him wait until after the 40-week date, but then it was a battle of wills between us with me lacking the medical degree and, frankly, the backbone (and self-esteem) to battle him too much on the issue. And I will always regret that.

I really liked your like on having kids later in life. Great article. Due to the fact that I have behavioural issues from time to time, I made a decision to not have kids and while at times I would like a kid, I honestly can’t see myself having kids. Sure, I wanted them when I was younger and I get jealous when my friends get pregnant, but then I get reminded of why I don’t want kids. Sure they are great when they behave the way that parents want them to behave, but I know that takes time and effort.
