Seven Links: The Best (?) of 2012

Over a year ago I did the Seven Links post that rounded up posts on my blog that were popular, helpful, and a number of other superlatives. I was trying to think up a way to bring 2012 to some kind of conclusion around here, so I am applying this exercise to the posts of 2012.

Most Popular Post

Very easily, The Big News, the post where I revealed that I had decided to quit my job and take some time off to write. The outpouring of encouragement and support in those comments was enough to help me get through the strange looks and whispers when others who weren’t so keen on the idea found out what I was doing.

Most Beautiful Post

I have always felt that my “heart lists” are my best, most beautiful things that I put out here. I have been making them since 2004, when I started sharing them on my Livejournal. There is so much evolution in them. They are things I am grateful for, bookmarks to remind me of the beautiful things I see, words from literature and lines from songs that touch a place in my heart in the moment that I write them down. When I go back and read this, I remember where I was. They are portals.

Some combination of words
Different epochs, different worlds
Wash my heart out on the stones
The gradual, lifelong construction of a state of wonder and serenity
‘Tis now the summer of your youth

Most Controversial Post

I don’t think I’ve written a controversial post in years. Maybe I’ll try to do that for you in 2013.

Most Helpful Post

My Recipe for a Successful Readathon seemed popular among readathon participants. There is some good advice there!

Post Whose Success Surprised You

Five Minute Friday: Grasp and Fifty Fun Facts Revisted both seemed to resonate with people in a way that I wasn’t expecting. I like it when you all respond in some way :)

Most Underrated Post

Hmm…my Loose Curl Hair Tutorial? Not particularly popular on the blog, but it got a little attention YouTube, I suppose. And seriously people, I burned my finger making that video!

Post You’re Most Proud Of

Being Brave — because, even if no one else noticed it, the post wasn’t just about the topic of bravery…I did something brave in it. I shared something that is so painfully real and raw. Only a handful, probably less, could even know. But it’s out there and what more can a girl do.

(Planning on have my One Word ready to post tomorrow. Still tossing a few of those options around.)

I enjoyed reading your 50 Fun Facts Revisited. Totes agree on The Goonies (and yes, my husband thinks it’s the best movie ever – blech) but I do like Princess Bride, once every 5 years or so.

You should definitely write a controversial post. I’m willing to bet a pumpkin spice latte that you have a plethora of subjects. Only because we’re almost twinkies (or at the least we came off the same Hostess production belt). I don’t know anything about being controversial in public spaces, though. Oh no. NO. Huh uh. :P

Can’t wait to see what 2013 holds for you in the writing realm, girl!

Also: One week ’till Downton. Woop woop!

Downton is next week??? WEEEE! (ok, sorry!)

Good review! I wish I could utilize your curl tutorial but my hair is the kind that really enjoys flattening out the moment a curling iron is released from the hair. :( Sponge rollers always worked best but who wants to sleep in those?

Happy New Year—and I’m definitely up for a controversial post or two!
