Somehow I managed to live in Norman for 10 years and never try Victoria’s on Campus Corner until last week. Locals will be shocked, but those of you who aren’t from around here don’t know exactly what I was missing out on. Let me show you.
I moseyed over there with a friend the other day for lunch and now I know what I’ve been missing. Yeah, that is all stuff I’m not supposed to be eating, but my Dietbet doesn’t start until Thursday and I like to pretend that I’m a runner who needs to carbo-load. You have your fantasies, I have mine.
First off — start with the cheese bread. No further discussion needed.
It was funny when we sat down to order and ended up picking almost the same meal independently (Jennifer went with chicken on her linguine while I chose shrimp). We both chose the “Best of Victoria’s” since neither of us had been there and we wanted to try an assortment of items. They have daily specials and items that change daily, like their pesto. I’m a pesto fiend, so I was excited about this before I got there. Once I saw that the daily offering involved dill and capers there was no holding me back.
Then there are the lasagna rolls. Every person I have ever heard talk about Victoria’s talks about the lasagna rolls, so I knew I needed to try one. (It’s the rolled up, baked pasta on the right.) Delicious. It’s difficult for me to choose which item I liked better, but the pesto spaghetti and lasagna rolls are up there at the top.
I raved about this to my youngest brother and since today is his day off and he’s driving up to visit me, I think I may be making another trip over there for lunch today. This doesn’t make me unhappy.
