Stitch Fix #2

I was so thrilled to get my second Stitch Fix today and couldn’t wait to start trying on items. At the same time, I was a little worried right before opening the box. Because it’s basically summer and some people get crazy ideas about summer.

You know what I’m talking about. SHORTS. And…things without sleeves.

I’m not asking much, I don’t think, to want to live in a world of cardigans and scarves forever and ever.

Anyway, so I opened this box and immediately turned my face away. There were bright colors. Bright colors in patterns. Smelling salts would have been nice right at that moment. I looked at each item and did not have a lot of hope going into it, but decided I needed to try it all on and take photos.

I was so excited about it I didn’t even bother to break out the big camera or change out of my yoga pants. You’re in for a real treat.

First item — Pomelo – Adella Abstract Print Ribbon Trim Tank

Hate it. Didn’t even bother to get a clearer photo. The print is not something I’d ever pick out and there’s a strange strip of fabric down each side (see below) that is just weird. The cut isn’t flattering and it’s tight across the bust.

Second item — Papermoon – Norris Abstract Houndstooth Sleeveless Blouse

I didn’t like the look of this straight out of the box. It has a sort of lime green outline around some of the black that doesn’t show up in this photo and that put me off to begin with. But when I tried it on I didn’t hate it. It’s a hi-lo top (see below for the back), something I’ve never had an interest in wearing, but like I said, I don’t hate it.

Verdict: THOUGHTS?

Third item — Pomelo – Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse

This was one of the few items that I liked at first sight, mostly because of the color. I do love pink. My phone sort of hides the neckline, but it doesn’t button all the way to the top. It’s nice and open and I think it looks good on. Maybe a little bit baggy? Definitely like it more than anything else so far.

Fourth item — Market and Spruce – Spensur Striped Jersey Dress

I wasn’t sure how this would fit when I pulled it out of the box, but I was pleasantly surprised! And the stripes create a slimming optical illusion, so that’s fun. It’s comfortable and light and perfect for summer.

Verdict: KEEPER!

I was excited earlier and couldn’t keep it to myself.

Fifth item — Subtle Luxury – Meredith Illustrated Paisley Scarf

The scarf is nice, but I’m not sure I want to pay $48 (correction — my receipt lists the price as $48. online it’s listed as $38) for it when I can find something similar for much less in a color I’m more likely to wear.

Verdict: THOUGHTS?

Not as thrilled about this selection as I was my first. I plan to leave some detailed reasons why when I let them know what I think about these pieces, but I would love to know your thoughts on the ones I’m unsure about. I’m not always the best at knowing what looks good on me.

What I’m keeping: If you’re familiar with Stitch Fix, you know about the $20 styling credit that’s put toward anything in the box. You also know about the percentage off if you buy anything. And you’ve probably figured out that you’ve got to do a little math to make the most of a box that you aren’t pleased with 100%. I waffled between keeping 2 or 3 pieces — the dress was a definite keeper, the pink blouse a close second, and the hi-lo top was beginning to tempt me. But together they were just a few dollars less than if I purchased the entire box (oh, that pesky discount). And I refuse to give that first blouse refuge in my closet. So, back goes everything except the dress.

  1. You asked for it. 😉

I like the color of the blue on the first one. I know you’re returning it for various reasons (the bust not fitting would be my main reason to return) but it’s a great color for you.

The white/green/black…. I’m not sure. I don’t like the hi-low aspect of it. I personally would feel like it always has to be tucked in (which I detest) or that I’m sitting on it or something. I don’t think I would keep it personally.

    The pink. Love. Keep. 🙂

    The dress. Love keep. 🙂

    The scarf. Love keep. 🙂

  2. I agree on the first blue tank…cut is not good, pattern is not good, and it just doesn’t look like ‘you’.

I think you should give the second tank a try, I think it would be great with the right pair of pants or skirt.

The rest are great! I’m not a scarf person so I can’t really give an opinion on that, but yeah I think $48 for a scarf that I’m ‘meh’ on would make me return it.

    1. I can express how much I hate that first tank. That’s basically what I said in my comments to Stitch Fix as well 🙂

You’re not a scarf person? Well, you learn something new every day! I never would have guessed that.

      1. Nope, not a scarf person. I mean, I’ll wear winter scarves, but I’m not into having something around my neck any other season.

  3. 2nd top – the hi-low – I’m not loving it.
The pink top and the dress look really good on you!
I would say ‘no’ on the scarf. I’m not a fan of orange, so if it was offered to me I wouldn’t like it to begin with. But almost $50? I’m thinking you could find something that you REALLY like for a much better price at Target/TJMaxx/Marshalls/Old Navy.

    1. Exactly. I think I’m going to look for a colorful scarf at one of those places soon. I tend to buy neutrals, but I’d like to find something bright in a color I don’t hate 🙂

  4. I really love the hi low top on you! the front is so flattering. I will say this: both the pompelo tops are quintessential Stitch Fix. Are they synthetic? does that matter to you? all my fixes have had stuff like that. I love the shape and cut, but then I realized I could get really similar tops for $15 at TJ Maxx. I finally made a note not to give me anymore polyester. the dress is awesome, but I’d go get my own scarf. I don’t like to keep accessories as much because you can get some really beautiful ones from orgs that do micro finance and empower women, or the same thing for way less at a discount store. hypocritical,I suppose, but I can’t justify a $50 scarf. so fun! love these posts.

    1. Synthetics don’t bother me, but I will say that the complete lack of “give” in the tops this time around is a deal breaker for me. I need all the “give” I can get!

  5. The only thing I love on you is the dress. It really does flatter your figure, and while I love the scarf, you could find something similar at target.

  6. In case you need $.02, here’s mine…

#1 – if you’re not comfortable send it back.
#2 – I like it, but again if you’re not comfy send it back
    #3 – it’s a great color for you & looks like something you’d wear
#4 – the dress is super cute on you
#5 – not a fan of the color orange & to me $48 is a bit much for a scarf, Charming Charlie has way cuter stuff for less.

    Since you asked…

  7. Firstly, I love ALL of the stuff they sent you. (Your Stitch Fix posts make me realize I cannot do Stitch Fix, because every time I got a package in the mail, I would keep every thing and go broke.)

I say if you’re not into the tops, don’t get them. I like all of them, but there are some places in Norman that have similar items that are probably a bit cheaper, and with solid colors.

The dress is adorable. I’m incredibly jealous about it. I need one for when it’s too hot for me to wear business casual at work.

The scarf is really pretty, but it’s orange, Elizabeth. You can’t wear that in Norman. I mean, I guess you can, but I won’t be held responsible for all the eggs thrown at your house or the sheer number of people that call you *gasp* an OSU/Texas fan. But if you’re in need of a scarf, I suggest going to Maurice’s, Target, Claire’s, or Earthbound Trading Company (in the mall). They have a ton for around $15.

    1. I was worried about liking everything after that first box. I guess I’m glad that’s not the case?

The dress is great. I’m sure there’s something like it at Target. I noticed a few things there recently that look sorta similar.

You understand all the baggage that comes with that overpriced scarf.
