Birthday Week List!

It’s been a great week. Shoot, it’s been a great month. November is my favorite month, not only because my birthday falls right in the middle, but also because the weather begins to change. The leaves on the trees around my house are finally changing. The one across the street is a bright red and I know that once it starts to go, the tree in my front yard will follow a few days later. I’ve lived here almost ten years and you start to notice those sorts of things. Why though? I want to know.

    • I received a wonderful (for the most part) Stitch Fix. I might freeze, but the I’m-not-sure-if-it’s-black-or-navy dress is going to be my 30th birthday outfit.

    • Had our first book club in a while. That was actually at the end of October, but it was still great. We’re currently reading my pick, Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.
    • I’ve been reading like crazy. I like it when I’m like this, devouring everything I can get my hands on. I’m almost through all the A Song of Ice and Fire books and I need to slow down with that. Basically one left and I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to leave it alone very long. Lots of poems, a short story here and there. I love reading!

  • I voted.

  • I made shrimp and grits for the first time and it was marvelous.

  • My friend Ali took me cake tasting for my birthday cake. They were all good, but the Chocolate Sinsation (top) won in the end. Then we spent a good portion of the day wandering around a book store and having lunch.

  • Had breakfast with Aaryn at a place we’d both been meaning to try. I was there back during the Caffeine Crawl, but it was nice to get the real breakfast experience.

  • Yesterday evening, in the midst of the colder weather, I snuggled up in a flannel shirt (I’ve been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls lately 🙂 ) and had some peppermint hot chocolate (remind me to share my recipe sometime) in my favorite fall mug.

  • I’ve been writing. (This is me burying the lead.) I mentioned that I was in a writing competition. Well, I finally shared the link to where it is on Twitter, so here you go (you snooze, you lose :-p ) if you’re interested. That’s the first part of the first chapter of the thing I decided to start a week into NaNoWriMo. It’s not the sort of thing I normally write. This is my foray into the romance genre, not counting the half dozen abandoned manuscripts from my teenage years. I’m plotting and planning and Scrivener has been such a great tool. So glad to finally be taking advantage of all it has to offer. Research for this project has been a lot of fun, too. I’ve got a little idea board on Pinterest where I’m keeping some of the things I want to remember for later in the story and I’m having a wonderful time with that.

  • Thursday I’m having dinner with my family to celebrate. It’s a combo birthday dinner with my youngest brother whose birthday is November 19. The baby is turning 26!
  • Friday, on my birthday, I’m going out with a group of lady friends to celebrate and I’m really looking forward to that. I wish my far away friends could be there, but it is what it is and I know we’re going to have a fun evening.
